Trinh Van Quyet, former chairman of property developer FLC Group, has appeared at a public event for the first time after serving his prison sentence for fraud.
Quyet, founder of FLC and Bamboo Airways, joined the bosses of the two companies when they met Choi Youngsam, the South Korean ambassador to Vietnam, at his embassy, and gifted him a model Bamboo Airways aircraft.

The visitors discussed future partnerships between FLC and South Korean authorities and businesses.
Choi said FLC Group was the first business delegation to visit his embassy on the occasion of the Lunar New Year holiday (Tet) in mid-February.
He hailed FLC’s contributions to deepening the strategic partnership between Vietnam and South Korea through investments and tourism exchanges.
The FLC team said South Korea is one of the company’s key strategic partners in its long-term development strategy.
Bamboo Airways initially identified South Korea as one of its key markets, and in 2019 launched its first direct flight to the country between Da Nang and Seoul. It later introduced flights from Cam Ranh and Hanoi to Incheon.
In April this year it plans to organize an investment and tourism promotion road show in South Korea.
Quyet was arrested in March 2022 when he was chairman of FLC. Last year he was found guilty of fraudulent appropriation of assets and stock manipulation.
The arrest caused difficulties for FLC, forcing it to sell the carrier to a group of shareholders in May 2023. But it bought back the airline in September last year and is in the process of restructuring it.
At its peak Bamboo Airways operated 30 aircraft, including a wide-body fleet for intercontinental routes. It is targeting a return to a similar size by 2030 by adding eight to 10 aircraft a year.
